Bidjar rugs are handwoven in the town of Bidjar, located in the Kurdistan region of northwestern Iran. Often referred to as the “Iron Rugs of Persia,” Bidjar rugs are renowned for their incredible durability and dense weave, making them some of the most long-lasting and resilient Persian rugs available. The unique weaving technique used by the Kurdish weavers gives Bidjar rugs their trademark heavy and sturdy structure.

The designs of Bidjar rugs are typically bold and elaborate, often featuring large medallions, intricate floral motifs, and repeating geometric patterns. These designs draw inspiration from both Persian and Kurdish traditions, blending elegance with a sense of strength. The most common patterns include Herati (fish) motifs, vines, and arabesques, all framed by wide, richly decorated borders. Some Bidjar rugs also showcase tribal influences, giving them a rustic yet refined appearance.

The color palette of Bidjar rugs is dominated by rich, deep tones such as dark reds, navy blues, and earthy browns. These colors are frequently highlighted with accents of ivory or beige to create contrast and balance.
